This policy explains how DIM Electrical (ABN 68 692 818 214) handles personal information. We have written it to meet the thirteen Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
1. Who we are and how to contact us
DIM Electrical is a licensed A-Grade electrical business operating across Metro Melbourne. We are the retailer and the installer for the solar battery systems we sell.
- Email: info@dimelectrical.com.au
- Phone: 0411 500 799
- Post: DIM Electrical, Metro Melbourne VIC
If you want to reach us specifically about privacy, put “Privacy” in the subject line and it will get to the right person.
2. What we collect
We only collect what we need to quote and complete electrical work. That is usually:
- Contact details — your name, mobile number and email address.
- Where the work is — your postcode, and your full address once we are quoting or booking a site visit.
- What you need — the answers you give in our quote form, such as whether you already have solar, roughly what your quarterly power bill is, and what you are trying to achieve.
- Your power bill — only if you send it to us, which you may do so we can size a battery properly or process the $150 bill reimbursement offer.
- Job records — quotes, invoices, compliance certificates and warranty details once you become a customer.
- Website and device information — see section 6.
We do not ask for, and do not want, sensitive information as the Privacy Act defines it: health information, government identifiers, or anything about your race, religion, political views or sexual orientation. Please do not send it to us.
You can deal with us anonymously
If you just want a ballpark price or a general question answered, you can call us and stay anonymous, or use a pseudonym. We only need real details once we are quoting a specific job, because we cannot design a system, apply a rebate or issue a compliance certificate without knowing who and where you are.
3. How we collect it
Almost always directly from you: through a form on this website, by phone, by email, by SMS, or in person at a site visit. If a third party ever passes us your details, such as a builder or a referral partner, we will tell you where they came from the first time we contact you.
If we receive personal information we did not ask for and did not need, we destroy or de-identify it once we realise, unless the law requires us to keep it.
4. Why we use it
We use your personal information to:
- reply to your enquiry and prepare a quote;
- size, design, book and complete the work;
- apply for and process federal battery rebates on your behalf;
- administer offers such as the $150 electricity bill reimbursement;
- issue invoices, certificates of electrical safety and warranty documentation;
- provide aftercare and handle warranty claims;
- meet our legal, licensing and tax obligations; and
- improve the website and understand which of our ads actually work (section 6).
We do not use your information for anything unrelated to the reason you gave it to us, unless you would reasonably expect it or you have agreed.
5. Who we share it with
We are not in the business of trading personal information, and we do not provide your details to other companies for their own marketing.
We share your information only where it is needed to do the job or to run the business:
- Our email provider (Resend) — delivers the enquiry to our inbox and sends your confirmation email.
- Our website host (Vercel) — runs this site and the form endpoint that carries your enquiry to us.
- Meta Platforms — advertising measurement only, and only in the limited, hashed form described in section 6.
- Rebate administrators and the Clean Energy Regulator — where a federal battery rebate is being claimed for your installation, because the claim cannot be made without your details.
- Equipment suppliers and manufacturers — where a warranty claim needs to be registered or escalated.
- Our accountant, insurer or lawyers — where genuinely required.
- Law enforcement or regulators — where the law requires it.
6. Cookies, the website, and advertising
What runs on this site
- Meta Pixel. Measures which of our Facebook and Instagram ads lead to enquiries. It records page views and the fact that an enquiry was submitted. It does not send your name, email address or phone number. We have deliberately turned off Meta’s automatic form-field collection and its Advanced Matching feature in the browser.
- Meta Conversions API. When you submit an enquiry, our server also tells Meta that a conversion happened. So Meta can tell whether you were the person who saw the ad, this includes one-way hashed (SHA-256) versions of your email address, phone number, name and postcode, plus your IP address and browser type. Hashing turns the value into a fixed string of characters. Meta compares it against hashes it already holds and cannot read the original from it.
- Vercel Web Analytics. Aggregate page traffic. No cookies, no individual profiles.
How to turn advertising tracking off
You can switch it off for this browser at any time, and it will stay off:
- Open this page, press F12 to open your browser console, type
window.dimPixel.optOut()and press Enter; or - turn on Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track in your browser settings, which we honour automatically; or
- block cookies for this site, or use your browser’s private mode; or
- email us and we will tell you exactly how, and delete anything already collected.
Turning it off does not change the service you get from us in any way.
You can also control what Meta shows you through Facebook Ad Preferences.
7. Direct marketing
If you enquire, we will contact you about that enquiry. That is the whole point of the form and is not marketing.
Separately, we may occasionally send you information about offers, rebate deadlines or services we think are relevant. Every one of those messages contains a clear way to opt out, and if you opt out we will stop, permanently. You can also simply tell us to stop at any time, by any method, and we will action it.
We do not provide your details to anyone else for their marketing.
8. Sending information overseas
Some of the providers in section 5 store or process data outside Australia:
- Meta Platforms — United States and other countries.
- Vercel — our site is served from Australian infrastructure where available, but Vercel is a United States company and support and logging may be accessed from there.
- Resend — United States.
Before disclosing information overseas we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, including relying on their published data-protection commitments. By using this website and submitting an enquiry, you acknowledge that this overseas disclosure takes place.
9. Keeping it safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access. In practice that means: the site is served over HTTPS, access to the inbox and job records is restricted to the people who need it and protected by strong, unique passwords with multi-factor authentication where available, and API keys and access tokens are stored as encrypted environment variables rather than in code.
No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach happens that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
10. How long we keep it
- Enquiries that never became a job — up to 2 years, then deleted.
- Customer and job records — at least 7 years, because tax law and electrical licensing obligations require it. Certificates of electrical safety and warranty records may be kept for the life of the warranty.
- Power bills you send us — deleted once the quote is finalised or the bill reimbursement has been paid, unless you ask us to keep them.
When information is no longer needed and we are not legally required to keep it, we destroy or de-identify it.
11. Accessing, correcting or deleting your information
You can ask us at any time to:
- tell you what we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong, out of date or incomplete; or
- delete it, where we are not legally required to keep it.
Email info@dimelectrical.com.au with “Privacy” in the subject. We will confirm who you are, then respond within 30 days. There is no charge. If we cannot give you access or make a correction, we will tell you why in writing and how to complain about it.
12. Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your information, tell us first — email info@dimelectrical.com.au. We will acknowledge within 5 business days and give you a written answer within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner:
- Web: oaic.gov.au/privacy/privacy-complaints
- Phone: 1300 363 992
13. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page and change the “last updated” date at the top. If the change is significant, we will say so clearly on the site rather than quietly amending it.
